What is Memory Foam

Memory foam was first created by NASA in the early 1970's as a project to create a material that would make space travel more comfortable for astronauts who have to withstand incredible g-forces during lift off. A foam material was needed that would be able to conform to the astronauts body but able to return to it's original shape once pressure was removed from the foam thus creating an even distribution of pressure over the foam and able to adapt to any movements of the person resting on it.

In the early 1990's the Swedish Mattress company Tempur-Pedic started using this new memory foam material in their mattresses sold in Sweden and the USA with great response from the public.

With the success of their new memory foam mattresses, many mattress manufactures in the United States began to develop their own visco-elastic memory foam material to offer the public more options when buying a mattress.
